Compounding is a science where a medication that is approved by the FDA but is not commercially available in a form requested by the doctor is prepared by the pharmacist in a manner to fit the patients unique medical needs. It can also be preparing a medication in a more acceptable form to meet individual patient needs like having the medication dye free, sugar/alcohol free, or without a filler that the patent is otherwise allergic to.
